We used Fibro-Multiform® to construct the modern lines of the A.S. Mosque which has a capacity of 3.000 people and is in the Ayazağa campus of İTÜ known to be a leading international university.

The İTÜ Association for Constructing Educational Units funded the mosque and Özgüven Architecture planned the mosque with its dome as the benchmark. The dome is the most important element of our classical mosque architecture.

The main prayer space is under the central dome. The T-plan of the mosque is enlarged by vaults at 3 façades other than the southern façade. The dome has a diameter of 26 meters and it is 21 meters high. The pendants that rise on huge feet meet to obtain the dome form.

Flexible and Dynamic Forms

We used Fibro-Multiform® façade panels in an area of 3.600 square meters including the mosque structure, minaret and the ablution fountain.

The panel system we developed for this project did not require an additional steel construction and this was very advantageous for the whole project scope.

The façade shell was first digitally designed in 3D; then panels of the required sizes were constructed. The panels were carved on wooden or foam blanks with CNC to get the panel model. Polyester or rubber moulds were built according to these models and then the moulds were sprayed with GRC / GFRC to get the final panel.

Easy Assembly and Maintenance

Any digitally designed form can be easily produced with the Fibro-Multiform® panel technology. The steel frame and cement that make up the Fibro-Multiform® material can be installed on the building’s shell with anchorages without any extra construction underneath. Fibro- Multiform®, resistant to fire and earthquakes, minimizes the façade layers and leaves room for heat and water insulations behind the façade. This set-up also contributes to the building’s longevity. The mechanical assembly of Fibro-Multiform® eradicates fire and decay risk of the insulation layers behind the façade because the panels can be easily deconstructed and then reassembled in necessary conditions.
