The HYLO Tower is built in place of an unused building that was originally constructed in the 1960s in central London. This is a hybrid project to revive the historic city center. Our Fibrocephe ®/ Fibropanel® and Fibro-M® brands suit the objective with their natural brick surfaces.
Holden Cherry Lee Architects planned the tower which reflects the former building it replaces. The Tower’s façade retracts as it goes higher and emphasizes the historic traces of the area. The HYLO Tower is one of the highest buildings in London clad with brick faced GRC / GFRC / UHPC panels.
We produced specific cladding materials with a brick surface. We acquired 720.000 custom bricks manufactured in Italy in 60 different sizes and dressed 6.200 square meters of surface.
“The natural brick faced panels constitale a unique example with both the formwork system and the joint application.”
The grout fillings on the brick surface are natural and let the building melt into its environment. We developed original solutions for the 8 meter high columns at the entrance floor and the large panels at the corners of the building. We paid special attention to the drip moulding details to prevent any water insulation problems. The brick cladding and the natural grouts turned the tower into a remarkable structure.
